Over half the city has been damaged in blast which occurred Beirut. Reports coming in seem to affirm allegations that the blast might have been caused by negligence.
“It is negligence,” an unidentified official source who knows the findings of an initial investigation told Reuters, adding that the issue about storing the material safely had come before many committees and judges and “nothing was done” to remove or disposed of the material.
The source said a fire began at port warehouse 9 on Tuesday and spread to warehouse 12, where the ammonium nitrate was stored.
Another source close to a port employee reported that a team which inspected the material six months ago warned it could “blow up all of Beirut” if not removed.
