Donald Trump has suggested the postponement of the November presidential election, saying increased postal voting could lead to fraud and inaccurate results.
He proposed a delay until people could “properly, securely and safely” vote.
While there is only little evidence supporting Mr Trump’s claims, he has long protested against mail-in voting which he has claimed would be susceptible to fraud.
US states want to ease postal voting due to public health concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
Mr Trump does not have the constitutional authority to postpone the election himself. Any delay must be approved by Congress. The president has no direct power over the two houses of Congress.
